Namenlos belonged to the first generation of punk bands in the GDR (communist East Germany), and they have been one of the bands that suffered most of repressions from the government, who was scared of these "negative decadent youths" and, by 1984, managed to pretty much destroy the blossoming underground scene. Singer Jana and drummer Mita had originally intended to form a girls band. As they couldn't find any, they formed their group with two guys, Frank and A-Micha, who had played in the first East Berlin punk band, Alternative 13, and later in Rosa Extra.
