Life Set Struggle started out trying to capture the energy of early 80s hardcore bands like Negative Approach, early Agnostic Front, and Black Flag, while also paying tribute to bands like the Necros, the Faction, McRad, JFA, etc. Coincidentally the band didn't particularly sound like any of their influences, though Todd Swalla from the Necros did play drums for them at a show for a cover of "Police Brutality" and some Black Flag songs.
