Happy The Clown strive to make hypnotic music that they describe as "free-form freakout", although "heavy shoegaze-and-psychedelic-inflected post-punk" may be a relevant assessment as well. Comprised by bassist Stephen "Happy" Muccini, guitarist Al "Alfa" Nahabedian and Spike on keyboards, the Boston MA-area band began in 1988 following the breakup of Steve and Al's punk band Jetset. Taking their name from a toy clown that Al won in a carnival, the new band found the boys treading into more repetitive and trance-inducing dark-rock waters.
