Dimi Mint Abba’s fame has spread throughout the Sahara into the Gulf States and her performances in Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Tunisia are gaining her recognition as one of the Muslim world’s greatest singers. Although the music of her neighbours (Mali, Senegal, Algeria and Morocco) are becoming better known outside Africa, the modern & traditional music which is popular today in Mauritania remains comparatively little known.
